MATH 2412 - Calculus III

Topics include polar, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates. The course covers parametric equations and vectors in the plane and in space, including solid analytic geometry. It also includes vector-valued functions, functions of several variables, and multiple integrations.

Prerequisites: MATH 2411 with a grade of C or better.

Course Objectives
  1. Find the sum, difference, and products of vectors in the plane and in space.
  2. Write equations for lines and planes in space, surfaces in space, and surfaces of revolution, using alternative coordinate systems where applicable.
  3. Find limits, derivatives, and integrals of vector-valued functions.
  4. Use differentiation techniques to find velocity, acceleration, arc length, and curvature of vector-valued functions.
  5. Determine limits and continuity of functions of several variables.
  6. Find critical points and determine relative extrema and saddle points for functions of several variables.
  7. Evaluate double integrals in rectangular and polar coordinates.
  8. Find areas, volumes, centers of mass, and moments of inertia using double and triple integrals.
  9. Evaluate triple integrals in rectangular, cylindrical and spherical coordinates.
  10. Evaluate line integrals by applying vectors.
