LAWS 2421 - Insurance Law 4.5 Credits
Students learn about the laws and state regulation of insurance, including the insurance contract, the role of insurance agents, insurable interest, insurer’s defenses, forfeiture and exclusion of risk, election and waiver, no-fault statutes, and various types of insurance.

Course Objectives
- Describe the basic features of life and health, fire and casualty, marine, no-fault, and reinsurance insurance coverages.
- Explain the concepts of insurance risk, subrogation, insurable interest requirements, assignments, insurer defenses, waiver and estoppel, and insurance regulation.
- Review and discuss the contents of insurance policies with an emphasis on language which is often susceptible to multiple interpretations.
- Perform basic tasks that paralegal and legal professionals performs in an insurance law and personal injury environment, including preparation of documents and correspondence during the initial intake to post-trial matters.
- Demonstrate an attitude of professionalism required of paralegals and legal professionals in the legal environment.
