LAWS 1501 - Immigration Regulatory Agencies

Students learn about the federal agencies involved in immigration, law, policy, and procedure, including U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Department of Labor, and U.S. Department of State. It also provides an overview of the role of the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Attorney General, and the Executive Office of Immigration Review, which conducts immigration court proceedings, appellate reviews, and administrative hearings. Enrollment in the course does not qualify any person to engage in the practice of immigration law.

Course Objectives

1. Identify and describe agencies that regulate, enforce, and adjudicate immigration law.

2. Examine agency organization, roles, responsibilities, and policy.

3. Analyze and discuss the interplay among administrative agencies involved in regulating, enforcing, and adjudicating immigration law.

4. Explain the immigration court administrative hearing process and appellate review.

5. Describe the process to apply for travel and tourism in the United States.

6. Review, evaluate, and assess trends in immigration regulation, enforcement, and adjudication.
