HLTH 1050 - Nutrition for Health and Healthcare 4.5 Credits
Students explore the role of nutrition in health and healthcare delivery with an emphasis on evidence-based behavior change. This includes foundational knowledge of macro and micronutrients; digestion and absorption; energy balance and body composition; and nutrition throughout the lifespan. Through experiential learning, students practice client-centered strategies to partner with individuals explore and apply this knowledge for positive health outcomes in a non-prescriptive manner.

- Describe the processes of digestion and absorption.
- Explain the functions and roles of macro and micronutrients.
- Apply patient/client-centered strategies to enhance food literacy and support understanding of how eating patterns influence body composition and energy balance.
- Describe evolving nutritional needs throughout the lifespan.
- Evaluate evidence-based dietary strategies for managing various acute and chronic conditions.
- Record personal eating patterns and reflect on personal nutritional goals.
- Help patients or clients explore their baseline nutrition routines and find evidence-based resources for positive health outcomes.
- Compare evidence-based dietary patterns for chronic disease prevention and management.
- Explore nutritional access and equity through community engagement.
- Debunk nutrition myths using evidence-based strategies for communication and relating.
