HIMS 2981 - Internship 4.0 Credits
The internship places students in a working and learning environment to receive on-the-job training before graduation. To develop internships to meet academic and career goals, students must work with the faculty internship coordinator to secure a job in a related field. Students prepare a portfolio based on the successful completion of the HIMS program. NOTE: All classes in the chosen degree program must be completed prior to being granted Program Director approval for this course.

Course Objectives
- Apply basic medical office functions, including utilization of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, clinical procedures, and pharmacology terminology in daily operations within the medical office.
- Practice professionalism by presenting a professional appearance and positive attitude.
- Exhibit effective organizational skills, verbal and written communications, and technical skills in the medical office setting.
- Exhibit initiative, responsibility, and resourcefulness in the medical office.
- Analyze and interpret medical communications used to document health care.
- Receive, organize, prioritize, and transmit information in the medical office.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the legal and ethical concepts in the medical office in maintaining confidentiality, following governmental guidelines, and complying with established risk management and safety procedures.
- Demonstrate effective time management and goal-oriented skills in setting priorities to accomplish activity requirements in an effective and timely manner.
- Express effective interpersonal and team skills by participating and contributing toward group activities, showing respect, and relating well to others.
- Integrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential to career success in the healthcare field.
