FIST 1090 - Firefighter I 10.0 Credits
This course includes the information and skills to perform basic firefighting functions on the fire ground. Upon completion, students can take the Nebraska State Firefighter I Certification Test. This course prepares students to meet the requirements of Firefighter I per NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications and Hazardous Materials Awareness per NFPA 472 Standard for Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents.

Course Objectives Perform as an entry-level firefighter for a volunteer or professional fire department.
The following is a partial list of objectives for FIST 1090:
- Initiatie the response to a reported emergency
- Transmit and Receive messages via the fire department radio
- Use SCBA during emergency operations
- Force entry into a structure
- Attack an interior structaure fire
Firefighter one, in conjunction with NFPA 472 (Hazardous Materials Awareness), meets the criteria established by the National Fire Protection Administration standard NFPA 1001. Firefighter I includes extensive and physically demanding practical evolutions, and must be taught at a fire training tower.
