FIST 1000 - Principles of Emergency Services

This course provides an overview to fire protection and emergency services. Students learn the structures within a fire department as well as the roles and responsibilities of the firefighters. Students are introduced to laws, regulations, chemistry, fire protection systems, and strategies and tactics of firefighting. This course is written to the National Fire Academy (NFA) FESHE curriculum.

Course Objectives

identify and describe the various jobs and structures within Fire Protection/Emergency Services.
identify and apply the techniques utilized when demonstrating fire prevention.
research the history of fire fighter injuries and casualties.
categorize the components, words, and related to the chemistry and physics of fire.
differentiate among local, state, and federal agencies that work with the fire service.
