Students engage in the study of estate planning topics, such as estate and gift taxes, various issues related to trusts planning and administration, property ownership issues, life insurance, private annuities, postmortem tax planning, and charitable giving.

  1. Analyze the estate planning process and identify the goals of this process.
  2. Identify the various methods of estate transfer at death.
  3. Evaluate and review the basic features of the federal estate tax, the federal gift tax, the generation-skipping transfer tax, and the federal income tax system.
  4. Distinguish among the various methods of estate transfer during life.
  5. Determine estate liquidity, pre-mortem and postmortem actions, and estate planning for special situations.
  6. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the estate planning process and identify the goals of this process.
