ENGL 2470 - Introduction to Women’s Literature

This course introduces students to writings by and about women. Students read a variety of writings (fiction, poetry, essays, plays) while studying the social, cultural, economic and political influences that have impacted women throughout literary history. Students respond to these writings analytically, creatively, and personally.

Prerequisites: ENGL 1010 or ENGL 1011 or ENGL 1220 or ENGL 1225 or ENGL 1230

Course Objectives

Analyze rhetorical elements in works of women’s literature.
Contextualize authors and works of women’s literature biographically, socially, culturally, philosophically, and historically.
Examine multiple perspectives in, among, and as applied to works of women’s literature.
Discover universal themes in works of women’s literature.
Explore their own perspectives on universal themes in works of women’s literature.
Demonstrate an appreciation for works of literature written by women.
