EMSP 1128 - Capstone Field Internship

The Capstone Field Internship, required by CoAEMSP, is the final component of the accredited Paramedic program. It provides the student with the opportunity to demonstrate competency and proficiency as a team leader on prehospital calls under supervision. Successful completion confirms readiness for entry-level paramedic practice and eligibility to sit for the national certification exam.

Course Objectives

Lead the EMS team under the supervision of a licensed preceptor, demonstrating critical thinking, sound clinical judgment, and professional leadership as an entry-level paramedic.
Integrate all didactic knowledge, psychomotor skills, and clinical instruction into safe, effective, and independent patient care in the prehospital setting.
Demonstrate the ability to function as team leader in a wide variety of prehospital emergency situations, adapting appropriately to patient condition and scene dynamics.
Apply evidence-based patient assessment, treatment protocols, and clinical reasoning to ensure quality patient outcomes across diverse emergency presentations.
Exhibit professional communication, documentation, and ethical decision-making consistent with national paramedic standards.
Successfully complete all end-of-program cumulative exams with a grade of C or better, demonstrating readiness for independent practice and licensure.
