DESL 2220 - Electronic Diagnostics

5.0 Credits

Students learn basic layout and function of electronic control systems and their components. Students also identify, diagnose and repair electronic control systems found in heavy-duty trucks and equipment. In addition, students continue to develop safe work and shop practices related to the diesel industry.

Prerequisites: (1) DESL 1210 must be completed with a grade of C or better

Course Objectives

Work safely in the shop/laboratory without harm to oneself or others.
Develop tool usage skills through hands on use specialty equipment and tools supplied by the college
Perform electronic control component diagnostics, inspection with strong emphasis on quality work
Identify electronic control parts and components with accepted industry terminology
Diagnose Electronic System failures
Explain the function and theory of diesel engine, transmission and fuel system electronic controls with proper terminology.
Properly use specialty electronic diagnostic tools on an introductory level.
Locate service information using manufacturer publications.
Use of industry standard and OEM diesel electronic control terminology in oral and written communications
