CNST 2130 - Construction Estimating

7.0 Credits

Estimating cost in construction prepares students for employment in the field of construction estimating. Students are prepared for this fast moving and changing field with training in electronic takeoffs. This course includes the use of spreadsheets Onscreen Takeoff, Quick Bid, and Blue Beam Revu. Quantity takeoffs are performed using these softwares, as well as by hand, to facilitate an understanding of required mathematical operations. Students design a spreadsheet capable of computing quantities, labor, and materials.

Course Objectives

ntroduction to estimating, list proper order an estimate is prepared, underlining essential information required.
Review materials used in construction and record various differences in grades.
Demonstrate the need in following a standard format.
Discuss the need for subcontractors’ estimates and examine problems that may occur.
Compute material and labor requirements from a list of quantities.
Compile all needed information for the estimate on an estimate work sheet.
Design a spreadsheet capable of mathematical computations for each area of construction. Record the need for records, listing actual cost, for an estimate/actual cost comparison.
Practice Blue Beam™, Software to organize and bookmark links to a dashboard for easy access by all users
Explore Blue Beam™, capabilities for acquiring quantities from plans in PDF format.
Examine the use of On Screen Takeoff as an estimating tool.
Compile a total takeoff of Wendy’s Resonant using On Screen Takeoff.
Explore and demonstrate compiling a complete estimate with Quick Bid.
Prepare a bid for submission.
