CNST 1370 - Exterior Finish

This course includes terms and definitions used in the construction field pertaining to exterior finish. It covers theory and practical application of various types of wall covering, roof covering, exterior doors, windows, and trim and emphasizes estimation of labor and materials in all areas. Students install exterior siding, roofing, windows, doors, and roofing materials on a house in the indoor lab.

Course Objectives

Explore sheathing requirements, materials and various methods of application for roof and wall sheathing.
Apply wall and roof sheathing, underlining the importance of moisture barriers.
Examine the multi-various types of exterior wall covering and materials available.
Apply and evaluate vertical wall covering and trim, underlining flashing and moisture barrier application.
Record materials and define methods of cornice construction, discussing needs, both architectural and structural.
Construct various cornice designs, underlining the importance for a professional installation.
Install exterior windows, doors and flashing materials.
Apply and evaluate horizontal wall covering and trim, underlining the need for a moisture barrier.
Explore the requirements/materials for roof protection, as well as the architectural needs.
Apply flashing and roof covering coinciding with local building codes and craftsmanship.
