AUTB 2340 - Automotive Custom Painting


3.0 Credits

This course gives advanced students insight and experience in the area of custom painting of automobiles, motorcycles, street rods, and other vehicles. It covers masking, paint types, pin striping, design layout, stencils, and mixing custom colors.

Prerequisites: (1)  Instructor Approval. Student must have completed AUTB 2310, or have an Associate in Auto Collision Technology; ASE-certified refinish technician; or five years documented work as a refinish technician.

Course Objectives
1.    Know the masking sequence of flame work.

2.    Spray, shade and blend flame work.

3.    Understand the basic theory of pinstriping with tape and hand brush paint pinstriping.

4.    Demonstrate design, creation and layout processes.

5.    Work with candys, pearls, and special paints.

6.    Know how to design stencils.

7.    Demonstrate use of custom stencils.

8.    Understand top coats and preservation of artwork.

9.    Mix custom colors.

10.  Demonstrate pin brushing.
