WELD 2242 - Submerged Arc and Metal-Cored Welding


3.0 Credits

Students learn automatic submerged arc welding in the flat position, manual submerged arc welding in the horizontal position, and metal-cored welding of flat and horizontal fillet and groove welds using semiautomatic equipment.

Course Objectives
  1. Properly and safely set up automatic and semi-automatic Submerged Arc Welding, and Gas Metal Arc Welding equipment.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of electrodes, shielding gasses and fluxes used in the SAW and MCOR processes.
  3. Use automatic and semi-automatic SAW, and GMAW equipment to safely produce welds on carbon steel using the SAW and MCOR processes.
  4. Produce quality single-pass fillet welds in the flat and  horizontal positions
  5. Produce quality multi-pass fillet welds in the flat and horizontal positions.
  6. Produce quality multi-pass groove welds in the flat and horizontal positions
  7. Pass guided bend and fillet weld break tests.
