WELD 2242 - Submerged Arc and Metal-Cored Welding 3.0 Credits
Students learn automatic submerged arc welding in the flat position, manual submerged arc welding in the horizontal position, and metal-cored welding of flat and horizontal fillet and groove welds using semiautomatic equipment.

Course Objectives
- Properly and safely set up automatic and semi-automatic Submerged Arc Welding, and Gas Metal Arc Welding equipment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of electrodes, shielding gasses and fluxes used in the SAW and MCOR processes.
- Use automatic and semi-automatic SAW, and GMAW equipment to safely produce welds on carbon steel using the SAW and MCOR processes.
- Produce quality single-pass fillet welds in the flat and horizontal positions
- Produce quality multi-pass fillet welds in the flat and horizontal positions.
- Produce quality multi-pass groove welds in the flat and horizontal positions
- Pass guided bend and fillet weld break tests.
