VACA 2240 - Cinematography

This class is an exploration into the art of cinematography, including composition, camera movement and lighting as used in cinema production. Students study the art form and actively work with camera and lighting to gain better appreciation for the craft as well as gaining technical skills in cinematography.

Course Objectives
  1. Discuss the basics of film and visual language.  Tell a story through images.
  2. Explain the pre-production, production and postproduction processes of both fiction and documentary motion picture production based on lecture and reading assignments.  Obtain experience in all of these stages in your own projects.
  3. Apply elements of visual shot composition, lighting and cinematography.  Utilize these creative elements in your own projects.
  4. Operate and identify components of various video cameras, lighting equipment and various other gear/camera equipment.
  5. Explain the basics of how a film set runs.
  6. Collaborate and work in a team production environment.
