VACA 2120 - Screenwriting Principles 4.5 Credits
This course is an overview of writing screenplays for motion picture film. It covers storytelling using the standard three-act screenplay structure and relates fundamental principles, including script format, structure, plot points, and character development, to sample scripts, films, and exercises.
Prerequisites: (1) VACA 1110

Course Objectives
- Name, recognize, and understand screenplay terminology and the film industry standard format.
- Develop a story in three-act structure.
- Develop a story concept per a Log Line, Statement of Purpose and author attitude about story topic.
- Develop a screenplay using a Plot Paradigm and a Beat Sheet
- Develop a screenplay that demonstrates a character arc.
- Develop original/assigned project(s) using the concept, a synopsis, and the film industry expected formatting.
- Use Final Draft or other professional screenwriting software for assignments and projects.
- Deliver expected pages of original screenplay work-in-progress on time then correct from notes the instructor marked-up pages to compile and submit the final script.
