VACA 1110 - Introduction to Scriptwriting

4.5 Credits

This course introduces scriptwriting for video production, television, and motion picture film. Using the two-column and screenplay formats, students complete lab exercises and assignments about the structure of concept, treatment, and finished script. It reviews broadcast or corporate examples. Students can use the scripts for projects in Moving Image Lab, Video II, and Video III.

Course Objectives

Describe the process of script development from concept to treatment, draft, revised script and final script.
Name and recognize the terms, formats, process and parts of the script writing process.
Use professional scriptwriting software to write scripts in the two-column and screen writing format.
Develop and write media scripts using demographics and target audiences.
Present scripts and treatments for discussion and class review.
Write short script(s) for projects for other VACA courses.
