INFO 2122 - Writing Scripts with BASH 4.5 Credits
This course is an introduction to writing shell scripts using Bourne again shell. Students gain hands-on experience with creating and running Bash shell scripts and functions. Bash script techniques include sequential branding and looping instructions, command substitution, and I/O redirection. Students learn to create new scripts as well as modify existing scripts. (Formerly UNIX Scripting I)

Course Objectives
- Describe the shell concept.
- Demonstrate how to call (run) a shell program.
- Identify components of the Linux file system.
- Illustrate the shell environment.
- List structured programming concepts.
- Demonstrate the use of decision structures.
- Define loop structures; demonstrate their use.
- Explain the purpose of functions; demonstrate defining and calling functions.
- Discuss and demonstrate the use of arrays.
- Translate real world problems into a series of shell commands.
