HVAC 1202 - Commercial Refrigeration Install & Service 4.5 Credits
Students install a complete refrigeration system (low temperature/medium temperature) using hard drawn copper tubing. Various systems are studied and the student solves typical service problems. Refrigerant leaks are repaired, components replaced, systems evacuated and dehydrated, oil and refrigerant charge installed, and systems tested and adjusted.
Prerequisites: (3) HVAC 1101 , HVAC 1102 , and HVAC 1103

Course Objectives 1. Outline safety procedures.
2. Recognize special tools.
3. Explain the use of special tools and hand tools.
4. Review electrical circuits.
5. Locate unit’s components.
6. Identify compressor types.
7. Distinguish temperature range.
8. Solve unit problem.
9. Evaluate unit cooling and defrost operation.
10. Evaluate written test.
11. Illustrate complete electrical and piping schematics.
12. List and define laboratory equipment, refrigerant type and temperature range.
13. Demonstrate the ability to pipe, wire, leak check, start unit and have unit cycle at correct temperature.
14. Record suction pressure, discharge pressure, defrost amperage and product temp.
