DESL 1220 - Advanced Diesel Hydraulics

Students study hydraulic systems that are used on heavy equipment that relates closely to systems used on medium- and light-duty construction and utility equipment.

Prerequisites: (2) DESL 1000  and DESL 1200  both with a C or better

Course Objectives
  1. Work safely in the shop/laboratory without harm to oneself or other students
  2. Gain the skill of tool usage through the hands on use of the student’s tools & hydraulic equipment/tools supplied by the college
  3. Perform hydraulic component disassembly, inspection and assembly with a strong emphasis on quality work and cleanliness
  4. Identify hydraulic parts and components with accepted industry terminology and schematics
  5. Diagnose sophisticated hydraulic component failure
  6. Explain the function and theory of  hydraulic system components with proper terminology
  7. Properly disassemble and assemble several hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, and cylinders
  8. Properly use specialty hydraulic rebuilding tools
  9. Use of industry standard and OEM hydraulic terminology in oral and written communications
