DESL 1200 - Fundamentals of Hydraulics 4.0 Credits
This course is the study of basic principles relating to hydraulic systems and component identification. Activities involving schematic usage and symbol identification enhance students’ diagnostic skills.
Prerequisites: (1) DESL 1000 with a grade of C or better

Course Objectives
- Work safely in the shop/laboratory without harm to oneself or other students
- Gain the skill of tool usage through the hands on use of the student’s tools & hydraulic equipment/tools supplied by the college
- Perform hydraulic component disassembly, inspection and assembly with a strong emphasis on quality work and cleanliness
- Identify hydraulic parts and components with accepted industry terminology and schematics
- Diagnose some hydraulic component failures
- Explain the function and theory of hydraulic system components with proper terminology
- Properly disassemble and assemble several hydraulic pumps
- Properly use specialty hydraulic rebuilding tools
- Use of industry standard and OEM hydraulic terminology in oral and written communications
