EXPL 1000 - Exploratory Studies


4.5 Credits

Through a variety of methods, students learn introductory concepts and practices of interdisciplinary study, including use of inquiry, critical thinking and problem-solving.  Students apply techniques for analyzing information, solving problems, and communicating results while learning about academic and personal self-discovery and applying academic strategies. Students explore and choose a specific career pathway, identify how it aligns with their personal goals, and examine how various disciplines address a societal need or challenge. Students also develop purpose and connection, positive social and academic behaviors, and engagement with the college and community.

Course Objectives
  1. Describe how results of a student’s skills and interest assessment can inform academic and career goals.
  2. Use research and inquiry practices to study and analyze career interest areas and related social topics from a variety of perspectives.
  3. Utilize campus resources and systems to facilitate study and research activities.
  4. Execute skills necessary to effectively process information and formulate answers to questions and problems.
  5. Demonstrate fundamental quantitative and qualitative skills employed in academic research and critical thinking activities.
  6. Develop skills in technology use and financial resource management.
  7. Demonstrate how interdisciplinary thinking can enhance skills in communication and diversity awareness.
