HMRL 1010 - Human Relations Skills 4.5 Credits
This is an introductory course in interpersonal skills, stressing the importance of utilizing those skills in the workplace. Students are presented with opportunities to become more effective, discerning, ethical, flexible, perceptive, and understanding in both professional and personal endeavors. Special attention is given to appropriate communication skills, multinational and diversity awareness, teamwork, and job-seeking skills as applied to an increasingly customer-oriented workplace.

Course Objectives
- Formulate personal strategies for improving human relations in the workplace.
- Develop team and group membership skills that are necessary for success in today’s workplace.
- Recognize the importance of professional presence in the workplace and participate in a simulated job interview.
- Prepare a resume, cover letter and job application.
- Refine basic communication skills and compare communication styles.
- Develop self-awareness consistent with success in the workplace.
- Develop and/or refine personal and professional goals.
- Discuss the importance of workplace ethics and values.
- Identify stressors and develop coping strategies to effectively deal with stress.
- Discuss anger management and conflict resolution strategies related to workplace success.
- Recognize diversity issues as they relate to the workplace.
