VACA 1020 - Audio I 4.5 Credits
This course is an introduction to the theory and application of the sound production process with emphasis on learning and practicing sound acquisition and recording techniques. Microphone acquisition, basic audio editing, and track mixing and sound for video and/or music are the basis for assignments.

Course Objectives
- Name and recognize hardware and software present in the audio studio.
- Demonstrate by diagram and actual hook up, a coherent signal flow within an audio system.
- Edit and mix audio recording on professional DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Perform basic recording, mixing and editing in professional audio editing software.
- Interpret and control the incoming and outgoing audio signals within an audio system.
- Evaluate acoustical environments and plan appropriate microphone placements.
- Review and evaluate mixtures of voice, music, and special effects as used in current industrial television.
- Plan, write, and produce a 30-second radio commercial utilizing all functions of the audio studio.
- Add and enhance audio to an existing video project. Sound effects, music and Foley.
