ARTS 2230 - Native American Art 4.5 Credits
Students examine the material culture of various indigenous peoples of North America. Special attention is given to Northern Plains Indians. Students identify and analyze art created in North America from 1700 to the present day. Students examine art as visual communication and discuss works of art in social and historical contexts.

- Analyze art by recognizing the elements of form.
- Interpret visual images in the context of individual cultures and historic periods.
- Identify examples of art as a means of historic documentation.
- Explain how art expresses diverse cultural values.
- Compare, contrast, and critique the artistic products of individual Native American cultures and artists.
- Describe construction and design of traditional artifacts based on research of historic objects.
