BSAD 1000 - Introduction to Business 4.5 Credits
Students learn core concepts and common practices in the business environment. Practical learning experiences examine the challenges and opportunities in today’s business organizations. Students develop a portfolio in the exploration of business careers and academic planning. Topics include business ownership, ethics and social responsibility, entrepreneurship, marketing, management, human resources, legal and regulatory environment, economics, global business, operations, accounting, and finance.

Course Objectives
- Explain the role of business in society, the primary functions within a business, and external forces that affect business activities
- Analyze principles of the marketing function in managing customer relationships
- Describe the primary functions, responsibilities, and skills of effective leadership and management
- Recognize the role of human resource management in planning, recruiting, managing, and engaging a workforce
- Evaluate business opportunities through the practice of conducting a marketing mix and SWOT analysis
- Develop skills in communication, working effectively in teams, and presenting in a business environment
- Identify the role of the legal system in governing and shaping the climate for business
- Summarize fundamental economic principles influencing the business environment
- Examine sound accounting practices and accounting principles in making informed judgments about an organization’s financial health
- Create a course portfolio representing exploration of business career opportunities and academic planning
