AUTB 2300 - Automotive Refinishing I

Students are introduced to EPA, personal health, and safety equipment regulations. It covers introductions to finish systems, metal prep, sealers and primers, and masking techniques.

Note: For this course, there is an additional $30.00 lab fee.

Course Objectives
1.    Interpret and explain the need for regulations and safety devices involved with a refinishing department.

2.    Locate and examine hazardous warning information for products used in refinishing.

3.    Select the proper personal protection equipment, inspect it, and demonstrate proper use.

4.    Identify the VOC content of paint products and explain the environmental concerns.

5.    Identify the differences between a variety of automotive finish systems including dry time, chemical make up, and plant and body shop application.

6.    Select the proper finish for repair and understand why certain repair finish systems and system parts are used.

7.    Plan a system for refinishing a vehicle.

8.    Remove old paint from a vehicle using a variety of methods.

9.    List the importance of corrosion protection.

10.  Select and apply the proper undercoat materials.

11.  List the different sanding materials, and demonstrate their use.

12.  Prepare adjacent panels for blending.

13.  Mask a vehicle for spot repairs, panel repairs, or a complete refinish job.
