ARTS 2110 - Intermediate Drawing 4.5 Credits
Intermediate Drawing continues the study of the skills acquired in Elementary Drawing with an emphasis on the use of color and mixed media. Exposure to digital media drawing tools is encouraged but optional. Subject matter includes objects, still life, spatial issues and may include the figure. Emphasis is placed on formal composition, visual communication, and creativity as well as observational drawing. Modern and contemporary drawing strategies are also explored. Critiques and group discussions address form and content as well as methods of visual communication. Students continue to be encouraged to find personal solutions to drawing problems and to develop at least one project of their own design.

Course Objectives 1. Make drawings that employ proper use of various color drawing media and associated materials.
a. Include mixed media techniques in order to expand drawing skills, if practical.
b. Utilize digital media as a visualization tool in its own right or in conjunction with other drawing media, if practical.
2. Make drawings that demonstrate accurate visual perception when drawing in color from observation.
3. Make color drawings exploring personal expression and style.
4. Make drawings that demonstrate increasingly refined creative and technical skills.
5. Research drawing and formal compositional strategies and techniques used by modern and contemporary artists and incorporate aspects in personal drawings.
6. Participate in critical assessment of drawings made during the quarter.
