Auto Collision Technology (ABAS1)

Location(s): South Omaha Campus

Award: Associate in Applied Science Degree
Academic Focus Area: Skilled Trades and Technical Sciences

This degree covers the entire scope of the field, including basic and advanced metal finishing repair, frame repair and alignment, panel replacement, major body repair, and all aspects of automotive painting using the latest technology.
 
Note: This program has 2 tracks to completion. A Daytime Lock-Step Cohort that is completed in 4 quarters and a Nighttime Traditional plan that can be completed in 7 quarters.

To earn this degree, a student must complete all required courses.

Associate in Applied Sciences General Education Requirements - 22.5 credits

The following are General Education requirements for an Associate in Applied Sciences degree (AAS). Students may not use the same course to satisfy more than one degree requirement.

Communication

1 Course     4.5 credit hrs.

Select 1 Level I course from the list of Communication General Education Courses.  

Quantitative/Numeracy

1 Course     4.5 - 5.0 credits 

Please check your degree program for recommended Math course. Based on the Math course you select, pre-requisites may be required.

Select 1 course from the list of Quantitative/Numeracy Skills General Education Courses . 

Critical Thinking/Creativity & Social/Cultural Awareness

Select 1 course from the list of Humanities   or Social Sciences   courses under the Critical Thinking/Creativity & Social/Cultural Awareness General Education Courses. 

Scientific Inquiry

Select 1 course from either the list of Natural Sciences   or Social Sciences  General Education courses.

Program Level Student Learning Outcomes

  1. List program learning outcomes:
  2. Demonstrate safe work habits that imitate the automotive collision industry’s highest standards.
  3. Perform skills that meet collision industry standards for cutting and welding applications safely and efficiently.
  4. Formulate a damage repair estimate and repair plan to meet OEM (Original Equip Manufacturer) specifications.
  5. Interpret vehicle estimates and repair orders to ensure vehicles are repaired to OEM specifications and recommendations.
  6. Practice quality non-structural repair techniques including metal finishing, part removal and installation, plastic repairs, and auto body filling applications per OEM standards.
  7. Demonstrate the ability to properly refinish panels to OEM appearance standards while identifying proper application and procedures and proper masking techniques.
  8. Interpret structural specifications using diagrams and measurements to identify the misalignments to safely pull damage back into OEM standards.
  9. Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical automobile systems as it pertains to the automotive collision industry.
