Architectural Engineering Design Technician (ARCED)

Location(s): Fort Omaha Campus


Award: Associate in Applied Science Degree
Academic Focus Area: Skilled Trades and Technical Sciences

This degree builds a strong foundation of architectural engineering knowledge through project-based learning. Students learn how cutting-edge technology, design, and construction techniques influence the production of construction documents used to create buildings. It prepares students to enter the AEC (architecture, engineering and construction) industry as BIM (building information modeling) technicians capable of supporting the work of engineers, manufacturers, and contractors.

Students will select a focus path of either Electrical, Mechanical or Structural.

Graduation Requirements
To earn this degree, a student must complete all required courses.
Total credit hours required: 91.5 - 96.0

Option Requirements for Architectural Engineering Design Technician


Students select a focus path of either Electrical, Mechanical or Structural and complete the courses under that option. Students are encouraged to work with an advisor to determine the focus path that meets their education and career goals.

General Education Course Recommendations for this Program:

Associate in Applied Sciences General Education Requirements - 22.5 credits


The following are General Education requirements for an Associate in Applied Sciences degree (AAS). Students may not use the same course to satisfy more than one degree requirement.

Communication


1 Course     4.5 credit hrs.

Select 1 Level I course from the list of Communication General Education Courses.  

Quantitative/Numeracy


1 Course     4.5 - 5.0 credits 

Please check your degree program for recommended Math course. Based on the Math course you select, pre-requisites may be required.

Critical Thinking/Creativity & Social/Cultural Awareness

Select 1 course from either the list of Natural Sciences   or Social Sciences  General Education courses.

Students are expected to meet with their student success navigator or advisor to plan a customized course schedule that meets their specific needs. Program Level Student Learning Outcomes


  1. Describe discipline-specific engineering components as they are integrated into buildings.
  2. Examine how the components of engineering systems relate to one another and architecture to support the holistic functioning of buildings.
  3. Operate industry relevant software to demonstrate knowledge and technical proficiency related to buildings.
  4. Evaluate engineering systems’ contribution to material and energy consumption in buildings.
  5. Interpret the design of building engineering systems in buildings.
  6. Create construction documentation for structural, mechanical, electrical, low-voltage, or plumbing systems in buildings.
  7. Design realistic architectural engineering projects through team collaboration.
