ELME 2230 - Programmable Logic Controllers 9.0 Credits
Students will become competent in operating programable logic controllers and troubleshooting machine problems. Monitoring, uploading, and downloading programs to processors will be a main learning focus. By the end of the course, students will have the basics necessary to diagnose machine failures using the processor program.
Prerequisites: (1) ELME 1212 with a grade of “C” or better

Course Objectives
- Identify and describe the functions and capabilities of a PLC.
- Describe and demonstrate how to address, use numbering systems, and bit instructions.
- Use Allen Bradley Software to develop a program.
- Develop ladder logic programs using timer function blocks, counter function blocks, and sequencer instructions.
- Develop ladder logic programs using comparison instructions, data file organization, control move and logic instructions.
- Develop ladder logic programs using Subroutine functions.
