PSYC 1120 - Human Growth and Development 4.5 Credits
This course addresses the stages of the human life span: prenatal, infancy, toddlerhood, middle childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and gerontology. For each stage of the life span, the course examines cognitive, language, emotional, social, personality, and physical development. In addition, students explore the procedures used to conduct research about human development.

Course Objectives
- Describe the life span as an ongoing developmental process, or set of processes, involving both stability and change.
- Analyze developmental events from the perspectives of the major theories of development.
- Evaluate research methods for gathering objective answers to developmental questions.
- Compare and contrast the stage and non-stage theories.
- Describe each period of development related to the physical, cognitive and psychosocial domains.
- Explain the interaction between the domains (biosocial, psychosocial and cognitive) as one develops across the lifespan.
- Evaluate the interaction between nature and nurture.
- Compare developmental issues in a variety of cultural settings.
- Describe the role of sociocultural factors on development.
- Practice APA-style format in writing assignments.
