PSYC 1010 - Introduction to Psychology 4.5 Credits
This course is an introduction to the science of psychology, including the application of critical thinking to the study of learning theory, memory, personality, growth and development, biological and neurological aspects, abnormal behavior, therapies, intelligence, motivation, emotion, sensation, perception, and theoretical perspectives.

Course Objectives
- Differentiate between the perspectives of psychology.
- Describe the goal of psychology; scientific method; and evaluate the efficacy of research methods, emphasizing the experimental design.
- Summarize the form and function of the human nervous system, emphasizing the structure and function of the human brain.
- Differentiate between the processes of sensation and perception.
- Discuss the states of consciousness emphasizing sleep, dreaming, and psychoactive drugs.
- Apply basic principles of learning.
- Describe the cognitive processes such as memory, language, thinking, and intelligence.
- Summarize biopsychosocial processes which may influence a person’s development and functioning.
- Evaluate personality theory and assessment.
- Describe the theories and processes associated with motivation and emotion.
- Differentiate between explanations, symptoms, and treatments for psychological disorders.
- Describe processes of social thinking, interaction, and influence.
- Practice APA-style format in writing assignments.
