ECED 1060 - Observation, Assessment, and Guidance 4.5 Credits
This course introduces a variety of observation, assessment, and guidance strategies used in early childhood education settings for birth through age eight.
Note: This course requires field experience contact hours within early childhood education settings.
Recommended: (1) ENGL 1010 or ENGL 1220 or ENGL 1230 . For students planning to transfer, ENGL 1010 is the better choice.

Course Objectives
- Identify the types of observation and assessment.
- Identify principles relevant to guidance, observation and assessment.
- Delineate the goals, objectives and techniques of positive guidance.
- Examine biological, environmental, cultural and other factors that impact children’s behavior.
- Identify strategies for building partnerships with families and agencies for referrals and collaboration,
- Develop an awareness and appreciation of the individual likenesses and differences among children, families and colleagues.
