INFO 1200 - Cisco Introduction to Networks 4.5 Credits
Students are introduced to the architecture, structure, functions, components, and models of the Internet and other computer networks. Concepts covered include: numbering systems, networking models and protocols, networking equipment types and configuration, and core network security principles. Students will design, build, and troubleshoot a small network and configure and secure routers and switches.

Course Objectives
- Describe Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and the internet, the network as a platform, and the changing network environment.
- Configure networking devices using the Cisco Internet Operating System (IOS).
- Describe networking protocols and models and explain the standards associated with them including their role in the transfer of data.
- Explain the layers of the Open Standards Interconnect (OSI) and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) models and each layer’s function in the transmission of data.
- Analyze network specifications and design a network Internet Protocol (IP) Addressing scheme using IP version 4 (IPv4) and IP version 6 (IPv6).
- Apply network troubleshooting techniques and tools to remedy network outages
- Secure intermediate networking devices based on security principles and specifications.
- Use Cisco command-line interface (CLI) commands to perform basic router and switch configurations and verification.
- Design, troubleshoot, and maintain a small network.
