INFO 1105 - IT Essentials PC Repair I


4.5 Credits

This course emphasizes the functionality of hardware and software components as well as suggested best practices in maintenance and safety issues. Through hands-on activities, students learn how to assemble and configure a computer, install operating systems and software, and perform basic troubleshooting of hardware problems.

This course aligns with and may help students prepare for the CompTIA A+ certification exam.

Note: Students should already have knowledge of basic computer literacy including working with a web browser, accessing information stored locally and on the cloud, and the use of common productivity software. This course must be completed with a grade of C or better.

Course Objectives
  1. Install, configure, and troubleshoot PC motherboards, systems components, and peripheral devices.
  2. Compare networking hardware types and configure local addressing and Internet connections.
  3. Summarize uses for network services, virtualization, and cloud computing.
  4. Support the use of mobile devices and print devices.
  5. Open, reassign, and close trouble tickets within a ticketing system to demonstrate practical understanding of basic ticket management.
