PRMA 1401 - Machine Tool I 9.0 Credits
This course introduces machines, tools, and processes associated with the machine trade. It covers fundamentals in bench layout, metal removal processes, drill presses, and horizontal and vertical saws. This course also covers the use of all precision measuring tools. NOTE: Completion of PRMA 1401 with a grade of C or better is required to advance to the next level class.
Recommended: PRMA 1400 is recommended at the same time as this course, but not required.

Course Objectives 1. Explain the different types of stock cut-off machines with emphasis on safety and correct usage.
2. Introduce the various uses and operations of the common drill press.
3. Discuss the different types of industrial drill machines.
4. Apply the different types of tooling used in a drill press.
5. Determine cutting speeds and feeds for drilling operations.
6. Demonstrate the importance of sharpening drill bits.
7. Define the procedures for drilling work under different clamping conditions.
8. Demonstrate safety procedures for operating drill press and various cut-off machines.
9. Demonstrate the ability to work with fractions and decimals.
10. Develop the ability to analyze precision measurement devices by applying mathematical skills.
11. Distinguish symbols and identify line usage used in blueprints.
12. Demonstrate a complete understanding of need for shop safety and rules governing the use of machining equipment.
13. Identify equipment.
14. Perform basic operations of precision machines.
