HUMS 1150 - The Humanities in the Non-Western World 4.5 Credits
Students explore the humanities in traditional and contemporary non-Western cultures, including the people of the Islamic world, India, China, Japan, Africa, and Oceania. Students will examine the fine and performing arts, literature, and the religions and philosophies of these cultures.

Course Objectives
- Recognize the medium, form, and function of painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, poetry, religion, music and dance of selected cultures from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
- Compare and contrast cultures of the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Oceania to modern western culture.
- Interpret the arts of the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Oceania in an historical, social, and global context.
- Analyze the artistic expressions of the non-Western world that transcend culture and time.
