HLSM 1030 - Floral Design 1


4.5 Credits

Students will explore the basic skills, mechanics, artistry and career possibilities present in the professional floral design industry.  Students will apply design techniques and use materials common to the field to produce floral arrangements for various types of events.  Students will design and decorate with cut flowers, potted plants and accessories and learn to price each design they create.

Course Objectives
  1. Investigate career opportunities in the florist industry 
  2. ID, properly name & process flowers/foliage used in the floral industry
  3. ID, properly name & use the tools and mechanics of the floral industry
  4. Apply the principles and elements of design to basic floral designs
  5. Create a variety of basic floral designs & calculate cost of each design
