PLAP 1110 - Plumbing IA

This course is an introduction to the plumbing trade for plumbing apprentices. It covers the history of plumbing along with the commonly used materials, tools, and equipment. The course teaches apprentices math used in the plumbing trade.

Course Objectives
  1. Recognize the plumbing trade as a profession which requires proper training and expertise.
  2. Recognize and discuss the importance and practice of safety in the workplace including OSHA.
  3. Describe the basic components of the plumbing system.
  4. Identify items in the plumbing trade with proper plumbing terminology.
  5. Describe the basic elements of the various piping installations.
  6. Differentiate the types of materials used in plumbing systems and their applications.
  7. Identify tools used in the plumbing trade.
  8. Calculate basic mathematical functions required for plumbers such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and converting fractions and decimals.  They will also be able to demonstrate their understanding of the principles of equality, square roots, area, angle measurements and conversion of length measurements.
