DESL 2100 - Manual Drivetrain 4.0 Credits
This course is the study of medium- and heavy-duty truck clutches, transmissions, drivelines, and differentials. Focus is on operation, repair, and maintenance of these systems.
Pre/Corequisite: (1) DESL 1000 with a grade of C or better must be taken either prior to or at the same time as this course

Course Objectives
- Work safely in the shop/lab without harm to oneself or other students.
- Gain the skill of tool usage through the hands on use of the student’s tools and equipment/tools supplied by the college.
- Perform heavy duty truck clutch adjustment, disassembly, inspection, and assembly with emphasis on quality work.
- Identify internal/external and integrated parts for clutches, transmissions, driveline and differentials.
- Properly diagnose component failures.
- Explain the function and theory of clutches, transmissions, drivelines, driveaxles and differentials.
- Gain technical skills by disassembling, inspecting, and assembling clutches, transmissions, driveline and driveaxles.
- Properly diagnose component failures by performing 3 and 7 above.
- Use industry specialty tools in 3 and 7 above.
- Diagnose electrical and electronic failures or fault codes in direct drive transmissions and other driveline components.
- Properly use EST’s to diagnose and analyze electronic and mechanical failures for 10 above.
- List and master use of proper terminology for clutches, all transmissions, driveline and differentials.
