DESL 1230 - Diesel Engine Fundamentals 4.0 Credits
This course is the study of diesel engine principles and component identification. Students gain knowledge through lecture and entry-level hands-on engine assembly and disassembly.
Pre/Corequisite: (1) DESL 1000 with a grade of C or better

Course Objectives
- Work safely in the shop/laboratory without harm to oneself or other students.
- Gain the skill of tool usage through the hands on use of the student’s own tools and equipment/tools supplied by the college.
- Perform diesel engine component disassembly, inspection, and assembly with emphasis on quality work.
- Learn to identify diesel engine parts and components.
- Learn to properly diagnose some engine component failures.
- Explain the function and theory of diesel engine components.
- Learn how to properly disassemble and assemble a diesel engine.
- Learn how to use specialty engine rebuilding tools.
- Learn and use proper diesel engine terminology.
