WELD 2400 - Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) - Steel II


3.0 Credits

Students learn welding of flat material in the horizontal and overhead positions, and pipe in all positions, including a branch and header assembly. It includes the study of pulse-arc welding. This course is a continuation of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding - Steel I.

Prerequisites: (1) WELD 1400  with a grade of C or better

Course Objectives
  1. Properly and safely set up Gas Tungsten Arc Welding equipment.
  2. Use Gas Tungsten Arc Welding processes (GTAW & GTAW-P) to produce quality welds on mild carbon steels
  3. Produce quality single-pass lap welds in the horizontal position.
  4. Produce quality single-pass fillet welds in the horizontal and overhead positions.
  5. Produce quality single-pass groove welds in the horizontal and overhead positions.
  6. Produce quality single-pass groove welds on round tubing in all positions.
  7. Produce quality multi-pass groove welds on pipe in the 1G position.
  8. Pass fillet weld break tests and guided root & face bend tests.
