WELD 1410 - Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) - Stainless I


3.0 Credits

Students learn the theory and techniques used in basic gas tungsten arc welding of stainless steel in the flat and vertical positions. The course covers the equipment and its proper adjustment and also includes the many types of tungsten electrodes and the use of different gases.

Prerequisites: (1) WELD 1400  with a grade of C or better

Recommended: WELD 2410

Course Objectives
  1. Discuss the safety aspects and operating procedures for GTAW welding of Stainless Steels
  2. Discuss tungsten electrodes and there preparation in relation to the GTAW welding of Stainless Steels
  3. Weld quality fillet welds on Stainless steel in the flat and vertical positions.
  4. Weld quality groove welds on Stainless Steels in the flat and vertical positions.
  5. Successfully pass fillet weld break tests and root bend tests.
  6. Set up equipment for Lift arc or scratch start and weld fillet welds and groove welds using fixed amperage
