PRMA 2410 - CNC I


9.0 Credits

This course introduces CNC machines with emphasis on machine setup and operation of the CNC mill and CNC lathe. Students spend time learning and writing basic G-Code functions needed for straight-line milling, hole-making, tapping, and engraving.

Prerequisites: (1) PRMA 1403 with a grade of C or better.

Course Objectives
  1. Employ CNC machine safety guidelines consistently.
  2. Perform care and maintenance of CNC equipment.
  3. Calculate coordinates and dimensions of CNC drawings.
  4. Write a program for CNC milling and lathe machine and analyze it for defects.
  5. Set up a CNC machine for standard and complex work-pieces.
  6. Apply programming and machine work-piece with CNC machine.
  7. Understand G and M codes.
  8. Choose the proper tools for machining on a CNC.
  9. Determine the correct speeds, feeds, and chip loads.
  10. Program the CNC Lathe and Mill using G code.
  11. Setup and run the programs
