PRMA 1403 - Machine Tool III


9.0 Credits

Students construct advanced projects using various pieces of shop equipment including milling machines, engine lathes, drill presses, and grinders. Students focus on safety as well as setup and accuracy of completed projects.

Prerequisites: (1) PRMA 1402  with a grade of C or better

Course Objectives
1. Determine cutting speeds and feeds for various milling operations.
2. Identify and describe the different types of work holding devices.
3. Demonstrate the ability to perform end milling, drilling, reaming, and boring.
4. Set up and operate a digital read-out.
5. Demonstrate procedures for locating, drilling and reaming holes in the work piece.
6. Demonstrate correct procedures for boring holes on a lathe.
7. Demonstrate thread work piece using various types of techniques.
8. Demonstrate correct procedures for cutting tapers on work piece.
