INFO 2362 - Building Secure Environments


4.5 Credits

Students learn about topics a system administrator would encounter in their profession. The student will learn how a system administrator fulfills various computer management requirements using both Windows and Linux operating systems on both physical and virtual machines. Topics include installation, creating and maintaining file systems, user and group administration, backup and restore processes, network configuration, system services, virtualization, and security administration.

Course Objectives
  1. Define, evaluate, and select appropriate software based on the needs of the client.
  2. Identify different Web Services available on major platforms and server issues related to those WebServices.
  3. Define, evaluate, and select the appropriate hardware based on the needs of a client.
  4. Discuss server configurations necessary for web services and demonstrate this configuration on at least two major platforms.
  5. Explain the necessary configuration for scripting support.
  6. Discuss security issues and how to mitigate them.
  7. Implement a web site with internal and external users; allow access through firewalls; implementSSL
