INFO 2023 - Networking Essentials II

Students will learn advanced networking, covering routing, switching, wireless configuration, monitoring, disaster recovery, and security. Emphasizing practical skills, this course prepares students to implement, manage, and troubleshoot secure network infrastructures, addressing real-world challenges in network operations and cybersecurity.

This course aligns with may may help prepare students for the CompTIA Network+ certification exam.

Note: Students must receive a C or better in this course to enroll in a capstone course.

Prerequisites: (1) INFO 1023  with a grade of C or better

Course Objectives
  1. Configure routing and switching technologies, applying static and dynamic routing concepts and implementing VLANs, spanning tree, and link aggregation within a network.
  2. Deploy and troubleshoot wireless networks, understanding frequency bands, channel configuration, security protocols, and access point settings.
  3. Implement physical network installations by selecting appropriate cabling, power options, and environmental controls to ensure reliable network infrastructure.
  4. Apply network operations and management processes, including documentation, configuration management, and change management in real-world network environments.
  5. Utilize network monitoring tools and techniques to measure network performance, detect anomalies, and manage configuration compliance.
  6. Design and implement disaster recovery plans, identifying redundancy options and developing strategies to ensure network continuity and high availability.
  7. Apply network security principles and defend against attacks, including implementing IAM, network segmentation, and best practices for device hardening.
  8. Troubleshoot network issues effectively using structured methodologies and diagnostic tools to resolve connectivity, performance, and configuration problems within network environments.
