INFO 1015 - File Management and User Interface 4.5 Credits
Students are introduced to file management concepts in the command prompt (CLI) and graphical user interface (GUI). Students learn the concepts of relative and absolute paths and techniques for working with and organizing files in Windows, MacOS, and Linux GUIs as well as the command line environment. Students organize, find, and manage files in the GUI and CLI and through common applications such as web browsers and productivity tools.

Course Objectives
- Use Graphical User Interface to navigate an Operating System
- Use File Management Utilities to manage File Structure within an Operating System
- Perform basic file and folder management in the Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI).
- Perform basic file management within applications to including saving files to known locations and performing basic file management tasks within file dialogs.
- Use relative and absolute path to work with files and folders in the Windows Command Prompt.
- Launch PowerShell, display help, and execute basic cmdlets to perform file and folder management using PowerShell cmdlets.
- Perform basic file management within applications to include saving files to known locations and differentiating between files saved locally and files saved remotely to iCloud in macOS.
- Perform basic file management tasks in the macOS/UNIX Command Line Interface (Terminal).
- Perform basic file and folder management in the GNOME Desktop Environment.
- Perform basic file and folder management tasks on a remote server using the File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
- Understand and use “File Backups” to restore files and folders.
